PREPARATION
- 1) When using a saucepan to cook quinoa, combine 1 part quinoa with 2 parts water or chicken/vegetable stock in the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Allow the quinoa to cook for 15-20 minutes, or until it appears translucent, plump, and the external germ (known as the “white spiral tail”) is visible.
2) Quinoa can also be cooked in a rice cooker by using a ratio of 1 cup quinoa to 2 cups water/stock. Simply add the quinoa and liquid to the rice cooker and press the “cook” button. This method is similar to cooking rice and is a simple way to prepare quinoa.
